According to Statista, In 2020, over 3.6 billion people were using social media worldwide, a number projected to increase to almost 4.41 billion in 2025. Social media has become the ultimate destination for people to engage with each other, interact and express their thoughts freely.

Social media brings out the personal touch within an individual. People post photographs, videos and status updates about their personal lives.

But it is not limited to that. Social media can be used in the process of hiring. Companies are focusing on increasing their online presence to promote hiring over social media platforms.

The emergence of social media in the hiring process is primarily because of its usage by Millenials and Gen Z, who are potential employees.

Keeping these factors in mind, social media platforms are making recruitment features available to the organization. It simplifies the process for both parties.

An organization can harness social media in hiring by two methods:

  1. Using the candidate’s social media accounts to run a background check
  2. Putting up job positions on social media

While the first method was actively used with the everlasting increase in the use of social media, the second method is extensively used in the present times.

1 . Choose the right social media platform

Twitter, Instagram, Linked In and Facebook are the most commonly used social media platforms. Twitter is generally used by companies to share important news about the company, solve the grievances of clients and post updates about the working of the organization.

Facebook is similar to Twitter but also provides the option of posting media. The search engine of Facebook is advanced.

Instagram is used to engage with the audience while launching new products, posting media, stories and following the culture.

The most effective tool for recruiting someone over social media is LinkedIn. It is specially built for job seekers, job providers and companies. It is a relatively professional space where candidates can find the ideal position for them by filtering out their options.

2 . Engage with your audience

After putting up a job position, it becomes necessary for the recruiters to engage with their clients. It can be done by simply adding a personal touch to the reply given to the candidate. The recruiter can use their name to do the same.

Gone are the days when companies had to behave in a certain professional manner over their social media handles. In the present times, companies are adding a personal touch to their audience. Zomato is a great example in this field. It engages with its audience in a personalised manner and makes them feel valued.
